Please join us for the updated installation of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association EMS Chief Update. Designed specifically for those working in EMS, this course will be offered only once a year with new topics during the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy in North Texas. The EMS Chief Update Program is lead by Tim Mock, Director of EMS Education at Collin College.


** Note: this is a new course and not a repeat of the EMS Chief Academy. Individuals who attended the EMS Chiefs Academy in the past should consider attending this and future programs.

Tuesday, October 22

12:30 – 1:00   Registration


1pm – 3:00pm  Welcome & Introductions, Tim Mock, EMS Chief Update Program Director, and Director of EMS Education at Collin College


3pm - 3:30pm Break


3:30pm – 5:00pm Chris Earnest, Training Director for North Texas for Department of Public Safety. Train-the-Trainer, in active incident responses.  


Wednesday, October 23

8:00 – 12:00 Chief Scott Thompson, of the Colony, Texas. New hiring practices to secure only paramedics in a Fire Department and leadership within the Fire Department between EMS/Fire.  


12pm - 1pm  Lunch


1pm - 2:30pm Scott Donaldson over law enforcement academy, TCOLE board for active shooter training, HB2196 that mandates public school to include protocol for active shooter on operations and a corporative effort on this situation.  


2:30pm - 3pm Break


3pm - 5pm  Matt Zavadsky transformation of EMS – what are agencies with Medstar doing to secure safety.


Thursday, October 24

8am – 12:00pm Larry Lowe: CISM and PTSD all the research behind it, proven treatments.


12:00 – 1:00  Lunch


1pm – 3:00 pm Jack Ayres, the legal edges of being on the call if provoked or attacked.


2:30pm - 3pm Break


3:30pm - 5pm Brett Hart, DSHS speaking on new regulations.   


Friday, October 25

8am - 11:30am Dr. Geoff Tumlin, On-Demand Leadership


11:30am - 1pm Graduation, Texas Fire Chiefs Academy

** Attendees will also participate in the TFCA Academy Graduation Lunch **
